Electronic Pest Control - Does It Work?

Electronic Pest Control seems to have a growing popularity in the last couple of decades. There are several different types and varieties readily available. Some that repel insects, and some that repel rodents. One could find them at most Garden Centers, Hardware Stores, and even online.

Electronic Pest Control
Now...Does electronic pest control work? Well, there are facts that support it does work, and facts that support it doesn't. Who does one believe? It is a hard question to answer. And this day and age no one has enough cash to fork out to test all of these products first hand. So we are forced to do the research and decide for ourselves that way. I did a bit of research. Now, when I say I did a "bit" of research, I mean exactly that. I don't need a ton of pest control. I mean..I have a cat to take care of any little rodents around the house and If spiders make a home on my porch, I usually just let them feast on whatever bug comes around their web. But I do have a HUGE issue with mosquito's. They love me...and I am allergic to their bites.

So anyway, I typed in to my search engine...'does electronic pest control work?' I scrolled down a bit and clicked on Wikipedia. Usually this site gives me a pretty good idea of what I want to know. This time, I was a little bit disappointed though. The site stated that there were only two different kinds of electronic pest control. Ultrasonic and Electromagnetic. Ultrasonic, using high frequency sound waves to deter rodents or insects to come around your general area. Electromagnetic, claiming to alter the electromagnetic field that already exists in your household wiring.
Now, the reason I am disappointed in this, is because, those are not the only type of electronic devises. Wikipedia, in general, only speaks of the devices that repel the pests. But that is not the only type of pest control is it? I mean, Bug Zappers do not repel, do they? No. They lure the bugs in for the kill. There are several devises, in the insect control part of the electronic pest control world, that do this same type of thing. Lure the insect in to be trapped and die, or zapped and die.

The next link I clicked on, in my 'little bit of research' was a site called, Science Daily. The title being....Electronic Mosquito Repellents Don't Work, Say Researchers. I read through a portion of the article. They are basing pretty much the entire article on the fact that electronic pest control, does not prevent insects from biting. Therefore, cannot prevent the spread of dangerous diseases like Malaria and Dengue Fever. (two of the deadliest diseases that are spread only by mosquito's) Now I feel that it was a pretty broad statement. Prevent them from biting? No matter what method you use to repel mosquito's..there are still going to be a few around. But wouldn't you rather have just a few around then hundreds? And, doesn't that fact, lower your risk of getting one of these two diseases? It think most of us would answer yes to both of these questions.

I honestly do not think that the electronic pest control methods have not been given much of a chance. Nothing is going to completely get rid of the pests. But I firmly believe that using these methods, especially in combination with other popular methods, can greatly reduce pest populations in the areas you want them gone. Besides the fact, that the electronic methods, use no harmful pesticides. Very good for the environment. And most use very little electricity. But are they cost effective too? How much would you spend to save you and your families life?
