Pest Control and Natural Pesticide

If anyone needs to seek more natural pesticide treatments for pest control it would be farmers. And of course, as the general population who relies on the farmer for food, we can all agree that natural pesticide usage by farmers is an important topic.

Natural pest Control
So while farmers try to use more natural means of pest control, consumers are happy but so are 'green groups' who have more than a casual relationship to the environment at large.
As people become more and more conscious of the impact of individual and group actions on the environment, many more are leaning towards environmentally-friendly choices.

Is There A Balance Between Nature & Organic Pesticides?
Perhaps not, according to some research. Organic pesticides may be showing that they aren't always the most environmentally-friendly choice. This, therefore, has sparked quite a controversy.
So, an organic pesticide could be made with things that we use fairly commonly. For example, these organic pesticides may contain insecticidal soap, horticultural oil, sabadilla and potassium bicarbonate. Much of which are common.

There are, of course, advantages to using these pesticides, but one should consider also the disadvantages of using these pesticides for pest control. For example, an organic pesticide doesn't necessarily protect plants (obviously important for farmers) from insects for long and should probably be applied fairly consistently. So, on the other side of the coin, synthetic pesticides provide protection to plants for a longer amount of time. Plus, more natural pesticides can take a longer period of time to activate and become effective, even for a short time.

Natural Pesticides Made in the Home
As a home owner you're certainly able to save money on hiring a professional pest control expert by creating your own pest 'repellants'. Though, as with hiring any expert, they would most likely have treatments that would last for a long time, saving you time and perhaps money and 'headaches' over a longer period of time.
Some people use alcohol, garlic, salt and flour in their homes for uses beyond the norm, in the case for pest control. You don't need anything special to make your own natural pesticides. Some people even use dead bugs to create their own pest control solutions. Gross, perhaps to some, but effective for others. Though, it is suggested that you not use mosquitoes, flies and some other insects. Otherwise, you may end up getting sick yourself! That is another good reason to call in the professional pest control experts.

Environmentally-friendly Pesticides
You can always find the more environmentally-friendly solutions and try them. Do make sure that you get the quantity in the correct amounts and use during the correct times. This will help minimize the damage caused to the environment itself. A good example includes pesticides like rotenone. It should be applied during the evening, at the time when bees are less active. This minimizes damage caused to them by the pesticides.
"Green trends" that were originally instituted with noble intentions and some ended up being be more harmful than they were worth. Organic pesticides could end up suffering the same fate; but more awareness of proper use of such pesticides could address this problem. All in all, it's probably best practice to consult a professional pest control company.

Pest Control and Mice

Pest Control and Mice
Since the spread of towns, cities and businesses, the original habitat of the common mouse has been encroached upon. Those rolling hills where mice once lived (well, they still do, but there are less rolling hills now) have created the 'opportunity' for them to find food and housing within man-made dwellings.
One could say that some mice populations have now become dependent on humans for their sustenance. Flourishing cities, once established, has cause mice to migrate in droves and become permanently settled. Because of this, mice have brought with them a host of problems for people; in their homes and places of business.

A Little History of Mice and General Population
Both mice and rats have played big roles in the days of yore as the well-known stories of death and disease is sometimes attributed to them. For example, the Black Death of London in 1665 is one such calamity in the history of mankind that is connected to the large populations of mice and rats. Back then, pest control for mice consisted of people hunting them down, trapping them and then burning the carcasses. But, instead of being able to eradicate them, their population numbers grew.

Mice vs. Rats
Common house mice can be just as dangerous as their cousins, the all too notorious rat. While in your home, mice and rats can chew on your food, gnaw at electrical wiring and household fixtures while also transferring diseases to humans.

The Importance of Pest Control for Mice
These very common house mice can produce approximately 50 young each year. These large numbers of mice and the growth of their population while in your home easily illustrate the importance of pest control for mice. Since mice produce rapidly, their population must be contained quickly, or at least before they become uncontrollable.

Pest Control in the U.S.
In the United States there are many pest control companies and many different techniques for handling pests, pest control and especially eradication of mice from homes and business. Some methods include the use of chemicals (mostly because it is quick and effective), but some also use the technique of trapping in order to ree your home, office or business of rodents in only a couple of days.

Some people opt to try and pest control on their own, forgoing the cost of hiring a pest control company. Though, hiring a pest control company is suggested based on their extensive experience and past successes. But, for those who choose to try and eradicate homes and offices on their own, the good ole mouse trap is an option. Whether it is effective or not depends mostly on its design and placement. Experiences and research shows that mouse traps that contain an expanded trigger can often catch more mice than the traditional, standard mouse trap. It goes without saying and many would agree that using food as your bait is an effective means of greatly increasing the chances of catching a mouse -- of course as a home-brewed method of pest control.

Pest Control - Do-It-Yourself Measures Vs Professional Services

Pest Control Do it Yourself
Spring is in the air. And no, it is not evident in the gloriously sunny days, the hyacinth that has just started to bloom or the iris that is peeping through the grass. Rather, the sudden onslaught of wasps and spiders in the house and the garden has heralded the arrival of the season. And you realize with a fright that you need to launch an attack against these invaders immediately. You may be a resourceful person, but experienced homeowners will warn against going in for do-it-yourself pest control measures. The hazards are plenty, they say, and so are the chances of not doing a thorough job. It is best to entrust the work of Pest Control to a professional and sit back and enjoy the fruits of his labor.

The case is clearly for professional pest control services and you stand to gain thus from employing these services:
  1. A job done thoroughly. Controlling these household invaders is not just about spraying pesticides in places where pest infestation has been detected. It is also about implementing measures like detecting hidden cracks and crevices and sealing them to ensure there is no recurrence. This is the work of a professional and these days, many agencies employ sophisticated Thermal Imaging devices to detect hidden crevices, the possible entry points for insects. They also have up their sleeves, a variety of methods to get rid of many kinds of pests. For instance, they employ fogging and dusting methods to effectively get rid of cockroaches.
  2. A job done safely. Implementing pest and termite control measures involves handling a lot of hazardous chemicals and being in close proximity to pests that may attack if their dwellings are disturbed. But a householder may not be equipped with the appropriate safety gear to tackle the job and its challenges. There are also chances of him administering the wrong dose of chemical-infused pesticides and causing harm to his family members. A professional on the other hand, is not only equipped to handle harsh chemical pesticides and vengeful pests who are irate at being disturbed but also is trained to administer the correct amount of pesticides that does not harm the environment.
  3. A job done timely. Pest control is not a one-time measure, as many homeowners are prone to believe. It is in fact, a scheduled job that should be carried out in regular intervals to ensure that any infestation is not only controlled but also prevented. A professional is the best person to know when to schedule the job to achieve the most effective result.

The first thing to do before practicing pest control is to eliminate the causes why pests go to your house in the first place. This could be because of leftover food that has not been properly disposed of. Cockroaches and rats devour on these. Therefore, before you go to bed, ensure that food is not displayed on places where it can be easily accessed by pests. If you have pets in the house, make sure they have no ticks and lice because pests love these. If they do have ticks and lice, provide instant remedy by asking your vet for the proper medication.

Bombing is another pest control activity which is very effective. It should also be done with precaution. Bombing should be done when the pests can no longer be controlled. You can hire experts to do the bombing but this can be very expensive. If you want to do it on your own, you will only spend around twenty dollars for the poison bomb. Make sure you follow the safety instructions in the label. Get your pets and your family members out of the house for a few hours when you switch on the bomb. Turn off the electricity in your entire house.

If you feel pest control is not for you and that your every attempt is a failure, you can always hire an exterminator. Buying mouse traps, rat killers and poison bombs every now and then can also cost a fortune especially if these do not work. It may be more practical to hire an exterminator and get rid of the problem once and for all. When you pay someone else to solve the problem for you, your mind is cleared of worries and your body is saved from all the hard work. Electronic Pest Control - Does It Work?

Electronic Pest Control seems to have a growing popularity in the last couple of decades. There are several different types and varieties readily available. Some that repel insects, and some that repel rodents. One could find them at most Garden Centers, Hardware Stores, and even online.

Electronic Pest Control
Now...Does electronic pest control work? Well, there are facts that support it does work, and facts that support it doesn't. Who does one believe? It is a hard question to answer. And this day and age no one has enough cash to fork out to test all of these products first hand. So we are forced to do the research and decide for ourselves that way. I did a bit of research. Now, when I say I did a "bit" of research, I mean exactly that. I don't need a ton of pest control. I mean..I have a cat to take care of any little rodents around the house and If spiders make a home on my porch, I usually just let them feast on whatever bug comes around their web. But I do have a HUGE issue with mosquito's. They love me...and I am allergic to their bites.

So anyway, I typed in to my search engine...'does electronic pest control work?' I scrolled down a bit and clicked on Wikipedia. Usually this site gives me a pretty good idea of what I want to know. This time, I was a little bit disappointed though. The site stated that there were only two different kinds of electronic pest control. Ultrasonic and Electromagnetic. Ultrasonic, using high frequency sound waves to deter rodents or insects to come around your general area. Electromagnetic, claiming to alter the electromagnetic field that already exists in your household wiring.
Now, the reason I am disappointed in this, is because, those are not the only type of electronic devises. Wikipedia, in general, only speaks of the devices that repel the pests. But that is not the only type of pest control is it? I mean, Bug Zappers do not repel, do they? No. They lure the bugs in for the kill. There are several devises, in the insect control part of the electronic pest control world, that do this same type of thing. Lure the insect in to be trapped and die, or zapped and die.

The next link I clicked on, in my 'little bit of research' was a site called, Science Daily. The title being....Electronic Mosquito Repellents Don't Work, Say Researchers. I read through a portion of the article. They are basing pretty much the entire article on the fact that electronic pest control, does not prevent insects from biting. Therefore, cannot prevent the spread of dangerous diseases like Malaria and Dengue Fever. (two of the deadliest diseases that are spread only by mosquito's) Now I feel that it was a pretty broad statement. Prevent them from biting? No matter what method you use to repel mosquito's..there are still going to be a few around. But wouldn't you rather have just a few around then hundreds? And, doesn't that fact, lower your risk of getting one of these two diseases? It think most of us would answer yes to both of these questions.

I honestly do not think that the electronic pest control methods have not been given much of a chance. Nothing is going to completely get rid of the pests. But I firmly believe that using these methods, especially in combination with other popular methods, can greatly reduce pest populations in the areas you want them gone. Besides the fact, that the electronic methods, use no harmful pesticides. Very good for the environment. And most use very little electricity. But are they cost effective too? How much would you spend to save you and your families life?

Pest Control For Moles

Are your industrious gardening efforts ruined by spiteful creatures, rebelling against the vain ventures of the lawnmower and the hoe? Is your otherwise perfectly smooth garden made misshapen by molesting moles? If so, bring pest control to the rescue. Not only do these pesky animals destroy the aesthetics of your garden, but the health of its plants. Moles primarily feed on earthworms, who convert tiny stones and organic matter into nutritious humus, improving vastly the fertility of your soil. Its faeces is rich in potash, nitrogen and phosphates, nutrients that greatly benefit the growth of your flora and fauna.

As well as improving the nutritional value of the soil, earthworms make it easier for plants to obtain water, by creating drainage tunnels throughout the soil. Favour floricultural friend over foe by taking control of the situation with pest control.Moles are a pest to farmers as well as gardeners. They pollute silage used to feed livestock with soil particles, bring soil to the surface of pasture, leaving less room for the grazing of animals and subsequently affecting their health, and damage farm machinery by bringing stones to the top of the soil. They also kill plants in their infancy, introduce weeds to clean soil, and disrupt drainage systems. If you are sick of an uneven lawn and a depleted supply of those residents you do want in your garden, or tired of pastoral palaver, pest control is the answer.

Online pest management services both prevent and control mole populations by a range of methods.Trapping involves placing steel traps, either barrel of scissor, in burrows, which capture moles as they pass through their tunnels. Humane traps can be used, which capture the mole in a way that does not harm it, so it can then be released into another area. Trapping moles is a cheap and effective technique that offers visual proof of the capture of moles. The animals are killed humanely, and traps checked daily. Moles can also be gassed, where a pellet of aluminium phosphide reacts with the soil to produce a lethal gas.

Whichever method you decide on, using pest control to reduce the population of moles on your land is beneficial not only to you, but to the wildlife that shares your farm or garden. By removing moles, earthworms can thrive and continue to increase the health of the plants you can't wait to see grow and bloom.Bio: Jon Blake runs Abate Pest Management Services, offering sustainable pest control solutions in East Anglia.
